Why Rural Health Care Matters Now More Than Ever

Why Rural Health Care Matters Now More Than Ever — And How Compassion Health Care, Inc. Is Leading the Way

In today’s fast-paced, digitally connected world, it’s easy to forget that many communities — including right here in rural North Carolina — still face serious barriers to health care access. At Compassion Health Care, Inc. (CHC), we work daily to remove those barriers for residents of Caswell County and Rockingham County.

As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), our mission is to provide excellent, patient-centered healthcare to all, regardless of income, insurance status, or zip code. And in 2025, that mission is more important than ever.

The State of Rural Health in 2025

Across the U.S., rural communities are seeing rising rates of:

  • Chronic illnesses like diabetes and heart disease
  • Mental health conditions and limited access to treatment
  • Substance use disorders
  • Uninsured and underinsured residents

Transportation barriers, provider shortages, and fewer resources create a perfect storm that leaves many people without timely or preventive care.

But here in North Carolina, Compassion Health Care, Inc. is changing that narrative!

How We’re Making a Difference Locally

At Caswell Family Medical Center in Yanceyville and James Austin Health Center in Eden, we offer services that go beyond routine check-ups.

  • Integrated Care Model
    • We offer medical, behavioral health, psychiatry, and substance use treatment in one place, ensuring whole-person support with fewer gaps. We also offer urgent care services in Caswell County at CFMC.
  • School-Based Outreach
    • Our Mobile School-Based Health Center (SBHC) visits schools throughout the week to provide wellness checks, vaccines, and urgent care, keeping kids healthy and in class. The SBHC visits the school campuses year-round, even through the summer to help break down barriers to care because of transportation.
  • Affordable Medication Programs
    • We participate in the 340B Drug Pricing Program and offer a Medication Assistance Program to reduce financial barriers for prescriptions.
  • Affordable Health Care Services
    • We offer a sliding scale fee for those who qualify, making it even more affordable to get the quality care you deserve.
  • Urgent Care Access in Yanceyville
    • Our Urgent Care provides immediate services for acute issues, especially important in rural areas with limited emergency options.
  • Culturally Competent, Community-Driven Care
    • We’re staffed by people from the communities we serve, and we believe in meeting every patient with compassion and respect!

How You Can Support Our Mission

Health care is a community effort. You can help by:

  1. Becoming a patient or referring someone in need
  2. Sharing this to raise awareness
  3. Volunteering or collaborating through your organization
  4. Following us on social media and staying engaged

Together, we can ensure that zip codes don’t determine health outcomes!
