Nexplanon Birth Control Implant

Nexplanon birth control in Caswell County, NC.

Birth control implants, also called contraceptive implants, are birth control devices that are placed by your primary care provider under the skin. Previously known as Implanon, Nexplanon is the brand name of the birth control implant commonly used today.

What is Nexplanon?

It is a hormone-releasing birth control implant that is placed discreetly inside the skin of a woman’s inner, upper arm. The implant is small, thin, and flexible that provides up to 3 years of continuous birth control for women. When thinking of choosing a long-lasting birth control option, the implant is a great option for many women.

How effective is Nexplanon?

The implant option is over 99% effective. Less than 1 pregnancy occurred per 100 women who used it for 1 year. This means that it is just as effective as “the pill”. The difference is that you don’t have to remember to take the pill daily, weekly, or monthly.

Is Nexplanon covered by insurance?

Once you have spoken to your provider at CFMC and agree that Nexplanon is right for you, contact your insurance provider to determine coverage for specific procedures such as this. The cost of the implant will be determined by your specific insurance plan. As a result of changes under the Affordable Care Act, you may qualify to get the implant for free. You may need to pay a co-pay, deductible, or other charges.

Can I have Nexplanon for more than 3 years?

Yes, if you choose to keep it for more than 3 years, it must be removed after that time by your primary care provider so he/she may insert a new implant under your skin.

Is Nexplanon reversible?

Yes, if you have second thoughts about birth control after the implant is placed in your arm, your primary care provider at Caswell Family Medical Center can remove it at any time during the 3-year period.

Will Nexplanon affect my period?

In studies, only 1 out of 10 women stopped using the implant because of an unfavorable change in their bleeding pattern. Each woman is different, so you may experience longer or shorter periods, or you may have no bleeding at all. The time between periods may vary, and spotting may occur in between them.

How quickly can I get pregnant after Nexplanon removal?

You may become pregnant as early as a week after the removal of the implant.
