Expanding Specialty Care Access: CHC and UNC Physicians Join Forces

Access to specialty care services can be a challenge for rural communities, but a new collaboration between Compassion Health Care, Inc. (CHC) and UNC Physicians Network (UNCPN) is changing that for Caswell County residents. Since December 18, 2024, CHC’s Caswell Family Medical Center has offered general surgery outpatient consultations, providing local access to high-quality specialty care.

A Commitment to Rural Healthcare

For over 45 years, CHC, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), has been dedicated to serving medically underserved populations in rural North Carolina. By partnering with UNCPN, CHC has ensured that Caswell County residents have local access to specialized surgical care without the burden of traveling long distances.

What the Specialty Care Clinic Offers

The General Surgery Specialty Clinic, located at 439 US Hwy 158 W in Yanceyville, NC, features a provider office, three exam rooms, and a dedicated patient check-in and check-out area. The clinic offers general surgery consultations with board-certified surgeons Dr. Reginald Lamont Cathey and Dr. Megan Straughan from UNC Health’s Surgical Specialists of Eden clinic.

Dr. Cathey and Dr. Straughan, both highly rated for their expertise and compassionate care, provide services on a part-time basis, ensuring that patients receive specialized medical attention without the need for extensive travel. Patient feedback has consistently rated both surgeons at 4.8 stars for their knowledge and care, reflecting their dedication to high-quality treatment.
